Power & Alignment® Teacher Training 50-Hour Module: Yoga Postures in the Modern Context
This 50-hour module invites a fresh, embodied inquiry into yoga postures as they meet the realities of the human body. It is for teachers and dedicated practitioners seeking to deepen and refine their understanding of asana beyond idealised forms and aesthetic goals, towards a practice grounded in the truth of anatomy and movement mechanics.
This is not an anatomy and movement mechanics course for its own sake. It is application-centred, focusing on how the body is designed to move and how its parts relate to the practice and teaching of yoga postures, as well as how to minimise common injury patterns.
This module can be taken as a standalone Yoga Alliance CET or as part of the Power & Alignment® certification. More information on the full certification can be found here.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
The curriculum centres on the Power & Alignment principles and toolkit for practising and teaching with anatomical clarity, biomechanical intelligence, and pedagogical sensitivity, honouring the diversity of bodies and movement.
Topics include:
Applying functional anatomy and biomechanics to yoga postures, exploring how the body organises for stability, balance, and movement
Translating anatomical and biomechanical understanding to refine observation and cueing
Using props to explore anatomical relationships, refine alignment, and support accessibility and adaptability in practice
Recognising compensations and repetitive stress patterns, with strategies for sustainable, injury-aware practice
Understanding the Power & Alignment scope of practice, code of ethics, and permission guidelines
